We are happy to announce that the 31st Communication Skills Workshop (CSW) will take place on 28-30 May 2026, in collaboration with the Centre for Languages and Communication LINGUA, University of Oulu, Finland. This will be a hybrid event, enabling participation at the scenic location of Hotel Lasaretti in Oulu, as well as via Zoom. The programme will include paper presentations and workshops on 28 & 29 May, and a cultural event (a guided tour in Oulu) on Saturday, 30 May.

Papers are invited for this one-day conference to take place in Cambridge (UK) next April.
Linguistic barriers exacerbate the already formidable challenges of responding to humanitarian crises, particularly—but not exclusively—in conflict zones. In the past decade alone armed conflicts worldwide have inflicted untold suffering on large populations and often resulted in mass displacement. Addressing the needs of those affected by war and violence necessitates the involvement of large numbers of translators and interpreters, many of whom are frequently untrained volunteers. In addition to the immediate crisis response, people with, or seeking, refugee and/or asylum seeker status require sustained access to translation and interpreting support in host countries, both in order to access basic services and to enable their integration into local communities.
This event will bring together translators, interpreters, scholars, NGO representatives, and volunteers to develop a deeper understanding of the complex demands and realities involved in translating conflict and refuge. Our aim is to create a space for meaningful exchange as well as to generate concrete opportunities for collaboration.

Plenary talks in the morning will be offered in hybrid format; afternoon sessions will be in-person only and will take the form of standard papers (15-minute talk + 5-minute Q&A).
We invite scholars, PhD students, practitioners, and those with direct experience of translation/interpreting in conflict areas or displacement to submit proposals for in-person afternoon sessions that address any of the following themes:
· Challenges and ethical dilemmas of translating in conflict zones
· The politics of language in conflict and displacement
· Translating testimonies of conflict and refuge
· AI and technology-enhanced translation in conflict zones
· Creative translation: refugee voices in art and literature

]]>This year’s conference will focus on the evolving landscape of multilingualism, language policy, and professional communication in higher education, with particular attention to the impact of digital technologies and AI.
This conference seeks to discuss topics as:
• the design, implementation, and evaluation of institutional language policies, balancing global aspirations with local language rights and equity;
• professional communication strategies in multilingual settings, including administrative discourse and academic genres, also linked to science communication and popularisation;
• technology-mediated solutions — collaborative platforms that enhance multilingual scholarly output;
• training and awareness-raising programs for staff and students, promoting reflexivity and competence in language policy and language diversity;
• governance issues and linguistic and epistemic justice, questioning linguistic hierarchies and the cultural erosion/loss of knowledge implied by an uncritical use of AI.
Please structure your proposal around one of the following three thematic sections, each guided by key questions (see the CfP document below):
Section 1: Reimagining Language Policies in Multilingual Institutions
Section 2: Professional and Academic Communication across Languages and Cultures
Section 3: Technologies, Translanguaging, and the Future of Multilingual Education

Language centers play a central role in the internationalization of their universities. In a world shaped by globalization and transformation, they promote the linguistic and transcultural skills of students and staff, enable international understanding and networking in the academic world, and internationalize universities from within.
Cooperation with partner institutions worldwide gives rise to innovative teaching and learning formats that open up new perspectives on multilingualism and mobility. Digital technologies, hybrid exchange formats, and joint curricula contribute to rethinking and reshaping language education across national borders. At the same time, language centers face challenges: how can sustainable cooperations be established? Which didactic approaches and formats are particularly successful? How do language centers benefit from networks such as the European University Alliances?
This call for papers invites you to discuss current developments, best practices, and future prospects for international cooperation in language centers.
The editors of FuH welcome contributions of approximately 10 to 20 pages (20,000 to 40,000 characters) and best practice/project descriptions of approximately 5 to 10 pages (10,000 to 20,000 characters).
Contributions may be written in German or English. If you would like to submit your contribution in another language, please contact the editors.
All contributions will be subject to a double-blind peer review process. The editors reserve the right to return submitted articles to the authors for revision or to decline publication.
Reviews of relevant titles, 3 to 6 pages in length (6,000 to 12,000 characters), are also welcome. Book suggestions are encouraged by the editors. Reviews increase the visibility of books and connect authors with potential readers and other scholars. They reveal new perspectives and promote critical exchange.
Please follow the guidelines for manuscript preparation.

]]>We are pleased to announce the creation of a Focus Group dedicated to plurilingualism within CercleS. This initiative builds on the work of the FlexiLingua Group, an inter-university collective (Masaryk University, Université libre de Bruxelles, University of Fribourg) that has been active since 2019 in internationally oriented projects.
Our accomplishments include publications (CASALC Review, edited volumes), international conferences (Brno, 2022 and 2024), and collaborative Erasmus+ and Movetia programmes.
The aim of the Focus Group is to expand this network, share good practices, and strengthen synergies around plurilingualism in higher education. We invite interested members to join us and contribute to this collaborative initiative.
We are currently preparing an edited volume dedicated to plurilingual practices and warmly invite researchers and practitioners who are interested to contribute.
We invite submissions for an open-access e-book published by Masaryk University Press. The volume seeks research papers and analyses of experimental or best practices in plurilingualism.
